Every year, more than 1,100 lives are tragically lost on Australian roads with almost two in three of those deaths occurring on regional roads.
This Queensland Road Safety week is an opportunity for all of us who get behind the wheel, to drive change.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton is calling for residents to drive carefully and spread the road safety message.
“One life lost is one too many, every death represents a devastated family, friends, and community.
“Tragically we continue to see a road toll in Australia that is far too high, the cost is enormous, and we must continue to do more.
“While government can deliver better roads, that remains just one part of the equation, road safety is all our responsibility and we must take extra care every time we get behind the wheel,” Mr Hamilton said.Joining Queensland Police and road safety advocates at the launch of Queensland Road Safety Week, Mr Hamilton joined the calls to address the fatal five of speeding, driver distraction, drink and drug driving, fatigue and failure to use seatbelts.
