The Peri-Urban Mobile Program (PUMP) established by the former LNP Government continues to deliver for the regions with round two delivering a $40.9 million investment.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton said the latest round would see improved mobile coverage in the region, with two new or upgraded sites in Toowoomba.
“Our growing community has experienced the failings of communications infrastructure that has not kept pace with local growth.
“Earlier this year I held a telecommunications forum, where residents were able to have their say, and meet with communications providers such as Telstra and support services such as the Regional Tech Hub.
“I’ve been advocating for better local mobile phone infrastructure and I am pleased that the Coalition’s PUMP program will deliver upgrades for our community,” Mr Hamilton said.
According to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts Amplitel will partner with TPG & Optus to deliver upgrades in Rockville and with Telstra and TPG to deliver upgrades in the Highfields-Cawdor corridor.
“This is a major boost for telecommunications in our region and I am pleased that the programs that have been setup are ensuring investment in our community,” said Mr Hamilton.
“The Coalition in government setup this program to ensure areas that have been underserved by Telcos because of the cost of infrastructure and lower populations are supported – because we fight for the regions,” Mr Hamilton said.
“Telecommunications are critical for our community to be connected, to ensure businesses can do business, people are able to speak with friends and family, to do school work and of course in emergencies,” said Mr Hamilton.
