Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton is calling for the State and Federal Governments to release information in relation to the Toowoomba to Brisbane Passenger Rail business case.
The Toowoomba region is growing and as a regional powerhouse there needs to be better connections to Brisbane to ensure future growth and access to services.
Mr Hamilton said the former Coalition Government committed up to $15 million for the development of a business case for an improved faster passenger rail between Toowoomba and Brisbane.
“The money has been on the table since 2019 and the Department of Transport and Main Roads has been progressing work in the strategic business case.
“This was an ambitious proposal to get work started to secure critical infrastructure for the best our growing region.
“Questions to the Federal Minister have not revealed any new information, but contractors have delivered preliminary reports to government.
“After four years the community deserves to know what the report has revealed, what the next steps are and whether or not the 2032 Olympic Games will deliver catalyst, transformative infrastructure that leaves a lasting benefit for our region?”
Mr Hamilton said the State and Federal Labor Governments have been left standing still on this issue.
“I am calling for the State and Federal Government to release the detail of their investigations so far and to demonstrate the work that is being done to progress this important project.,” Mr Hamilton said.
