Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton is welcoming the news that the Palaszczuk Government has scrapped the Toowoomba North South Transport Corridor, following an intense, sustained campaign by residents against the State Government’s proposal.
“This is great news for local residents who stood up to fight against the Palaszczuk Government’s ill-planned proposal that lacked consultation.”
“The State government has had to admit that they were wrong and they did not come out and listen to the local community.
“Unfortunately, we have seen the poor administration from Minister Bailey deliver cost blow outs on rail, roads and more. But this project was going to do more harm than waste money, it was going to ruin lives.
“I understand the significant stress that residents have endured due to the lack of clarity surrounding this project, and I’m pleased to know that some of those anxieties have been relieved before Christmas.”
Mr Hamilton wants to see investment in the region, but not at the expense of the community’s well-being and without due process.
“The need for transport infrastructure solutions in our community remains. The issue on this occasion wasn’t failing to acknowledge the problem, but failing to get the solution right.
“We now have a chance to do that.
“I will always welcome investment in our region, but that investment must be done right, and we must be included in those decisions.
“Now, it is time to turn attention to securing the transport solutions that work for our community.
“If you are interested in putting forward alternatives, please let me know via the survey on my website,” Mr Hamilton said.
