Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, is coming to Toowoomba and the response from the community has been overwhelming.
Senator Price brings her decades of lived experience in Aboriginal communities to the debate about the Labor Voice proposal and why it is risky, divisive, unknown and will not benefit disadvantaged communities.
The event, to be held at Rumours International on the 14th of August, sold out within one week.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton says this will be the largest event on Jacinta’s trip around Australia.
“Within a few days, 800 tickets had sold and come last Monday the entire 1250 allocation was exhausted.
“We were able to extend capacity to 1400 and the remaining tickets sold out within 24 hours, a testament to Senator Price’s appeal and the community’s eagerness to engage with her insights. The Prime Minister and the government have failed to answer questions, Senator Price will not.
“People everywhere want to hear from Jacinta, they know she has unique insights to offer and lived experience to call on,” said Mr Hamilton.
The overwhelming amount of interest in this event reflects recent polling on how the electorate of Groom intends to vote in the referendum.
A poll of over 1,727 people across Groom generated a ‘No’ response from 87.6% or around 1,500 people.
“What this poll shows is that the people of the Toowoomba region are overwhelmingly choosing unity over division,” said Mr Hamilton.
“We are choosing the strength, confidence and certainty of a nation that recognises all people equally and we’re turning our back on this risky and divisive voice.
“I’m proud to represent this community,” Mr Hamilton said.
