The first construction is officially underway on the Queensland section of Inland Rail with Interlink SQ’s contract to relocate various utilities starting this week.
Member for Groom Garth Hamilton MP said this was the beginning of an exciting future for the Toowoomba Region.
“The beginning of the enabling works project shows that Inland Rail has moved from a plan to reality,” Mr Hamilton said.
“With work underway on relocating sewer infrastructure, a wastewater pipeline and telecommunications cabling within the Inland Rail alignment, it signals the start of local construction of this nation-building project.
“The economic opportunities that Inland Rail brings will benefit businesses of all sizes during the construction phase and beyond.
“Inland Rail will be a catalyst to establish new businesses in our region in industries such as manufacturing and processing, resulting in new jobs and real growth.
“The work at InterLink SQ is the first of many construction projects for Inland Rail in the Toowoomba Region.
“We know that Inland Rail means jobs, increased economic activity, and it means an opportunity for our region to grow.
“This contract is a perfect example of at least two local companies, Interlink SQ and Newlands Construction, benefitting directly from this initial investment in Inland Rail,” he said.
“Inland Rail will mean more investment in our region. The benefits are already starting to flow to local companies, and we are not even in the major construction phase yet. When that happens, it will result in a jobs bonanza for the Darling Downs.”
