The Queensland Labor Government is pushing ahead with redeveloping Toowoomba Sports Ground, without consulting the local community.
It has been revealed the Labor Government has spent $580,000 of taxpayer’s money on a ‘Project Validation Report’ to confirm its position of upgrading the Clive Berghofer Stadium in East Toowoomba.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton who has been calling for community consultation with local residents ahead of any decision being made, has labelled the decision by the Palaszczuk Government as ‘deceitful’ and ‘wasting taxpayers money’.
“What we are seeing is the Premier and her government once again ignore the people of Toowoomba on an issue important to them and our community.
“We had a simple request: consult on this project before bulldozing ahead,” Mr Hamilton said.
“Now at a cost of over $580,000 the government is undertaking a report, to reconfirm a decision it has clearly already made despite concerns from residents, and they haven’t built a single thing.
“How can the government understand the concerns of residents, the social, economic and environmental impacts without speaking to those that live and work there?”
“This is a total waste of money, when crime is rising and police numbers are falling. When people are waiting hours to be seen in the emergency department. At a time when we’re seeing water restrictions and no investment in new water infrastructure.
“It is time the Labor Government came clean on what it intends to do at Toowoomba Stadium, stop being deceitful about consultation and the impact on local residents,” Mr Hamilton said.
