Applications for funding to support the cost of volunteering in the region are now open, with $66,000 available to support the community.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton is calling for all local volunteer groups to make an application for funding to support their activities.
“The Volunteer Grants program is an invaluable opportunity to support the Toowoomba regions volunteers.
“We are in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis and our volunteer groups do an incredible job helping to support people through tough times.
“Under this round of the volunteer grants program, I want to see a focus on supporting community groups doing the hard yards on easing the cost of food, fuel and electricity,” Mr Hamilton said.
Funding is for eligible not-for-profit community organisations to assist their volunteers and encourage volunteering. Funding between $1,000 and $5,000 to support community groups to:
- Purchase equipment to help volunteers
- Contribute to the fuel costs for volunteers
- Contribute to the reimbursement of transport costs
- Contribute to the costs of training courses and background checks
Mr Hamilton said the recent cost of living crisis has resulted in greater pressure on community groups and record levels of support being provided.
“This program recognises the valuable work of our volunteers and it supports my commitment to ensuring our community groups are strong,” Mr Hamilton said.
