Families in Groom are making tough decisions about their own budgets right now and next week’s Budget must provide a plan to address the cost of living crisis and show real fiscal restraint.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton has outlined his priorities for the budget and said it was an opportunity for the Labor Government to take real action to help reduce inflation, ease pressures on local families and businesses and support our economy.
“We must see the Albanese Labor Government deliver a bBudget that provides a plan to address the cost of living crisis and show real fiscal restraint.
“Locally, Labor’s first budget failed to deliver for our community. In this Budget, we need to see better outcomes for Groom, such as:
- A plan to get Inland Rail to Toowoomba, then pause. Saving billions and delivering a return on investment.
- Funding to deliver Railway Parklands, to ensure economic renewal, provide greenspace and housing investment.
- Real solutions to restore the Australian dream of home ownership and deal with the Housing crisis.
- Ease cost of living and not raise taxes
- Ensure essential services, including health and better local roads.”
Economists are predicting a commodities and income tax boon for the government, Labor must pay down debt, protect Australians from higher taxes and provide measured relief – not more broken promises.
“Economists have described the first Labor Budget as the weakest fiscal strategy in recent times. Australian families are making tough decisions about their own budgets right now. Jim Chalmers and Anthony Albanese must show that they are prepared to do the same,” Mr Hamilton said.
