The newly upgraded Melrose Bridge on Melrose Road, Brookstead is now open to traffic, delivering a safer and more reliable connection for residents, truck drivers and farmers.
Federal Member for Groom Garth Hamilton welcomed the completion of the project, which was funded under the former Liberal and National Government’s Bridges Renewal Program (BRP).
“This is a fantastic outcome for our community. The new bridge is a stronger, dual-lane concrete bridge that means improved safety, reducing congestion, and ensuring a more efficient freight route,” Mr Hamilton said.
“Upgrading this bridge means better access, improved productivity and safety for locals, especially our local farmers and freight operators who will benefit from improved access to key transport networks.”
The project was delivered through a $4.35 million partnership between the Toowoomba Regional Council and the Australian Government, with $2.55 million from the former Liberal National government.
“I want to thank everyone who worked on this upgrade and the local community for their patience during construction. This is an investment in our region’s future, ensuring our roads remain safe and more resilient for years to come,” Mr Hamilton said.
The completion of the Melrose Bridge is another step forward in strengthening the Toowoomba Region’s road network.
