The Groom 2025 Volunteer Grants program has closed, with a huge number of local groups applying for funding.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton who is running the program locally said there had been 49 applications received.
“In this environment of high cost of living, increasing insurance premiums, rising fuel prices and people having to work more, volunteer groups have taken a big hit.
“This program is about supporting groups and their volunteers, to do the important work they do and support volunteers to stay connected,” Mr Hamilton said.
As part of the process, a panel was put together to assess applications to be put forward for funding, chaired by Garth Hamilton and included Myf Rigby from the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce, and Cr Melissa Taylor.
“The next steps in the process are that we have together reviewed applications, funding amounts, and put forward 28 projects for funding, worth $66,225.
“Unfortunately the pool of funding is limited, and we could not fund every project with the total value of applications being $202,354.
“I will keep applicants up to date with progress,” Mr Hamilton said.
