Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton, has slammed the Albanese Labor Government for their cost-of-living crisis and overseeing cuts to critical regional projects in favour of big cities down south.
Mr Hamilton said the test for the upcoming federal budget was clear – tackle cost of living, invest in the regions and restore funding for local roads.
“This Labor Government made all sorts of promises before the last election and they have broken so many of them,” Mr Hamilton said.
“Just last week we had confirmation that energy bills have risen yet again across the country, including in Queensland, flying in the face of the promise by Labor to cut energy bills by $275.
“Under Labor, inflation is higher, interest rates are up sharply, and we’ve had the largest fall in living standards in history. Housing is unaffordable and our country is less safe.
“This budget is a test for Labor, who seem to have forgotten about helping Australians get ahead and are failing to invest in regional communities like Toowoomba.
“I am calling on the Labor candidate for Groom to explain how an Albanese Government will deliver for the people of Groom. Will he explain why he thinks a new tax on utes, a new tax on farmers and higher taxes on superannuation is good for people in a cost-of-living crisis?
“This Labor government and their candidates have a lot of explaining to do.
“Contrast Labor’s lack of commitment to Groom and regional Queensland with the Liberal Nationals’ plan to rebuild the economy and get Australia back on track.
“We’ve announced policies to support a stronger regional Australia and local projects, such as upgrades to the Speedway and Hockey facilities.
“We simply can’t afford another three years of Labor. Only a Liberal National Government will get our country back on track and help Australians to get ahead.”
