The Albanese Government’s budget has once again shortchanged regional Australia, delivering a decade of deficits, more spending in Canberra, and no support for our local infrastructure.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton, has slammed the Albanese Labor Government for failing to deliver outcomes for regional Australia and locking the nation into a decade of fiscal failure.
“This Budget confirms Labor has increased spending by $425 billion, yet families in our community will be left to struggle with rising costs and fewer opportunities,” Mr Hamilton said.
“This is a Budget designed for an election, not for Australia’s future prosperity,” Mr Hamilton said.
Despite Labor’s unprecedented spending, vital services continue to fall short and wait times blow out.
“Under Labor, there are 41,000 new public servants, at a time when services have not improved,” Mr Hamilton said.
“Migration is still out of control. Under Labor, there will be 1.8 million new people coming to our country, escalating Labor’s housing crisis.”
“Labor’s housing programs have not delivered a single new home. For families and first home buyers, owning a home has never been harder,” Mr Hamilton said.
While Canberra receives billions for bureaucracy, Mr Hamilton said regional Australia has been neglected. Labor has announced a $1 billion dollars specifically for roads in Melbourne, while regional roads in communities like ours have been overlooked.
“Labor has again failed to restore funding to the New England Highway at Cabarlah that they cut, there is no funding to fix the Warrego or Gore Highways and Inland Rail remains stalled under this government. These investments would that make a real difference in our community, economy and for road safety,” Mr Hamilton said.
