For almost two years now, Labor has been missing in action on the Cost of Living crisis that is crippling many families and businesses across our region.
The Senate Cost of Living Committee has now released its second Interim Report which makes 14 recommendations on how the Albanese Government can act to help Australians.
In order to tackle inflation, the first recommendation of the Committee is for Labor to reduce its spending to support the Reserve Bank in its efforts to curb inflation.
Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton said the Albanese Government must adopt the Committee’s 14 recommendations, because the people of Groom can’t afford any more bad decisions and wrong priorities from Labor.
“First and foremost, Labor must reduce its spending to take the pressure off the Reserve Bank to do all the heavy lifting. Unless Labor reduces its appetite to spend, inflation will stay higher for longer, and interest rates will stay higher for longer.
“The worst thing Labor can do in their upcoming Budget is to deliver another high spending, high taxing Budget.
“Labor was elected on a promise to lower the cost of living, but the people in our region are suffering due to higher mortgage rates, higher energy prices and higher grocery bills.
“This Budget is a test for Labor. Will they deliver a budget that responds to the findings of this Report and doesn’t make the inflation problem worse? Or will they continue to let the people of Groom suffer under their economic mismanagement?
