Australians will have more support to develop news skills or get a job in the fast-growing technology sector thanks to a $5 million investment from the Morrison Government.
As part of our plan to build a strong economy, a stronger future and ensure more Australians can get into work, the Morrison Government will commit $5 million to develop a technology skills passport.
Member for Groom Garth Hamilton said the Liberals had a strong track record when it comes to job creation.
“This commitment builds on our pledge to create 1.3 million more jobs over the next five years – including 450,000 jobs in regional Australia,” Mr Hamilton said.
“Under the Liberals, over 1.9 million more Australians are in work, despite the COVID-19 global pandemic, and around two-thirds of these new jobs are full-time.
“We are driving the unemployment rate down to below four per cent, meaning we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to get every single Australian who wants a job in a job.
“Where there are skills gaps to fill, we want Australians to have the first crack at getting that opportunity and our skills passport approach will enable rapid upskilling and reskilling.”
The Skills Passport will ensure Australians can match their skills with industry needs. The Morrison Government will partner with the Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) to accelerate the implementation of skills passports.
This new and innovative partnership aligns with work already underway to achieve the longer-term vision of creating an integrated system—providing a single point of entry for Australians to ‘rack and stack’ credentials across the university and VET sectors.
The technology skills passport will expand access to recognition of prior learning and get people qualified with the skills industry needs and into a job faster.
Today’s announcement builds on the Morrison Government’s $3.7 billion investment to support 800,000 training positions, ensuring Australians have the skills they need.
We’re also providing $2.8 billion in additional incentives to train the next generation of apprentices and trainees.
Only the Morrison Government has a plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future for all Australians.
