As part of its plan to get Australia back on track, a Dutton Liberal National Government will invest $4 million in the Toowoomba Hockey Association to deliver upgrades to the grandstand and multipurpose facilities.
Federal Member for Groom, Garth Hamilton, said he has worked closely with the Toowoomba Hockey Association and Queensland Hockey on a plan to fund and deliver these critical upgrades.
“The LNP believes in backing the regions, which is why we’re committing this funding to support a growing sport that has delivered Olympic and sporting champions from the Toowoomba region,” Mr Hamilton said.
“Our community is a great place to live and I have a plan for our future. I want the Toowoomba region to continue to grow and be a place where we do not just have everything we need, but we have everything we want – that is my vision.
“It is important that we invest in community services such as sport, which are critical to supporting healthy lifestyles and a thriving community.
“I will always fight for our growing region to ensure we have the infrastructure we need.”.
Toowoomba Hockey Association Secretary, Michael Truskinger, welcomed the commitment, saying it would make a real difference for the club and the local hockey community.
“This commitment is a game-changer for our association,” Mr Truskinger said.
“It will allow us to improve our facilities, making hockey more enjoyable and accessible for local players, families, and spectators alike.
“These improvements will benefit players at every level, from juniors to elite athletes, for years to come.
“Garth Hamilton has been a strong advocate for us at the highest levels, ensuring our voices were heard and delivering this much-needed investment.
“It’s fantastic to see this commitment to the future of hockey in Toowoomba.”
