Highfields and surrounding areas is a rapidly growing community with a 2023 resident population of 11,381. Highfields also services the surrounding communities such as Meringandan, Cabarlah and Kleinton with a further population of 4,677. In February 2024 Australia Post announced the closure of the Cabarlah CPA.
The rapidly growing community is currently serviced by only one full service LPO. In comparison the average number of residents served by a full-service post office in the Toowoomba City urban area is approximately 8,000. The Highfields commercial precinct serves up to four times as many people.
